This week we've worked a lot with crate training, practicing manding, and just touched on leash walking. This litter is very social and loves attention from us. They're eager to please but sometimes get caught up in wanting to make training time play time. And training time should absolutely be fun, always--but they just don't take themselves too seriously and keep me laughing.
This upcoming week will look a bit different for each individual puppy based on their go-home date. I'll start doing a lot more separation between the one's going home versus who's staying later to avoid separation anxiety. We will also take some more car rides this week to prepare them for their journey's home. The puppies who are staying for a while it will be mostly business as usual, continue working on crate training & more leash walking. The weather this week is also supposed to really warm up so hopefully we get them outside for some fun.
Lucky for me this litter has been phenomenal with potty training so if you have a tray that holds a potty pad for them to step onto and do their business you'll see.

This past week we've worked a lot on powering up the clicker, exposure to various stimuli, and continued some barrier exercises. Unlike other litters we've had who enjoy the comfort of their whelping box, this litter wants OUT! They've spent a decent amount of time so far being pet and loved on by my kids and now that they've spent some time romping around my living room the box just isn't enough for them. Usually we wait a bit longer to let them roam but I'm going to have to give in for these attention-seeking pups.
Personality-wise to this point Gunner and Daisy are the most chill. Gunner likes to find attention for belly scratches constantly--you barely look his way and he flops onto his back. Daisy just wants to find a warm lap to cuddle into, even in all of the chaos. Meanwhile, Darcy has enough rambunctious energy enough for the both of them. From time to time Daisy will give in and play-fight with Darcy but quickly decides she would rather take a nap.
This upcoming week we will introduce the kennels with the doors open, starting with feeding time and building up. We will also do a lot of 'take-a-way' with the puppies where we snatch whatever food or toy they are actively using to prevent resource-guarding. We will also turn our clicker experience into 'manding', which for us is basically the art of sitting with eye contact in order to communicate or ask for something. This helps the puppies not become jumpers, whiners, or barkers in the future.

This week the puppies definitely exited the transition-stage and are very active. Some main goals have been encouraging potty's in the right location, early exposure to the crate, barrier challenges, getting nails done including a quick Dremel, and just a lot of handling.
Goals for this week are powering up the clicker (making that positive connection between 'click' and treat), more crate work, lots of exposure, and some physical and mental challenges to further their confidence and curiosity.
